Note | Rare and unusual live-taken conch from the deep water. The specimen shows a moderate weight/size ratio, moderate nacre gloss, thick natural lip with intact spire and protococh. The shell shows excellent dorsal patterning, characteristic of the species. The shell was collected at 40-45 meters on sand/rubble substrate proximal to reef edge off Rabaul, New Britain Island, Papua New Guinea. The specimen has a few negligible body whorl blemishes and a transverse ventral hair-thin growth stress line just below the shoulder (arrow). Grade: F+++. |
