Item | # 0003325769 |
Family | Muricidae |
Name | Chicoreus cornucervi - CHOICE SPINES , Röding 1798 |
Size | 102.3 mm, w/o |
Locality | Cape Leveque, Western Australia |
Note | Remarkable and large, darkly pigmented example of a choice murex species that showed superior characteristics and proportion. The shell is outstanding with long black curved spines, coral orange aperture lips and extensive convex postnuclear whorls with intense major and minor spiral sculpture cords. An exquisite shell with perfect apex, spire, intact spines and anterior siphon. The shell was collected at low tide on the side of a rock lodged in mud, Cape Leveque, north of Broome, Western Australia in late 2023. The specimen is hard to flaw but may be a shade short of perfect. GEM minus. |
