Item | # 0003306911 | Family | Fissurellidae | Name | Fissurella limbata , G. B. Sowerby I, 1835 |
Size | 54.6 mm |
Locality | Caldera, northern Chile |
Note | One interesting specimen of Fissurella limbata. Large specimens of Fissurella limbata are ALWAYS covered with Scurria scars (at least one in each specimen). They are rather rare and this is the only specimen that I have obtained this year. This species, as all the other large Fissurella species, is actively collected by fishermen so they often have nicks, chips, and damage on the border of the lip. This particular specimen has a Scurria scar and a scar in the dorsum, two tiny nicks in the border of the lip, and the dorsum is slightly eroded aroung the foramen, however it is a rare species, difficult to obtain in some seasons, so I am offering it at a very low price as a space-filler for a Fissurella collection. |
