Item | # 0003288861 | Family | LANDSNAILS | Name | Chiliborus pachychilus - Rare, Nice , (Pfeiffer, 1843) |
Size | 37 mm |
Locality | ChaƱaral de Aceituno |
Note | One very nice fresh dead collected and large specimen, in very good condition for the species, of the rare terrestrial snail species Chiliborus pachychilus. Chiliborus is a genus endemic of central-northern Chile, with four species distributed in littoral areas. This particular specimen has an off-white shell with a shiny, slightly nacreous aperture and parietal shield, and with a adult thickened lip. This landsnail is very rare, living in a very restricted location in northern Chile. This species has never been found alive, but their rather thick shells are often found in sandy areas, and it is possible that they bury themselves in sand until good conditions appear. This particular specimen is in the best condition for the species, which usually have dull shells with dull lips.
This is an opportunity to obtain a rather rare landsnail from Chile, an endemism from a very restricted geographic locality. |
