Item | # 0003033596 | Family | Buccinidae | Name | Penion chathamensis - Very very RARE ! , ( Powell, 1938 ) |
Size | 88,55 mm, w/o |
Locality | New Zealand ( 1821 ) |
Note | This shell is a mysterious one...Guido Poppe describes it ( Type Penion chathamensis + Guido Poppe ) It is also described in New Zealand Mollusca - Marine Land & Freshwater shells by A.W.B.Powell ( p 201 ) Koen Fraussen sent me the following link http://ww.mollusca.co.nz/speciesdetail.php?taxa=3370#prettyPhoto -
Is this a subspecies, not described yet or has the rare Penion chathamensis different forms? I got this shell from an old collection. Anyway this subadult is rare and endemic. Further research is needed. The shell has some damage at the lip , but is still of great value for research and for your collection ! |
