Item | # 0002520794 | Family | Cassidae | Name | Cassis fimbriata - UNIQUE GOLDEN IMPORTANT , Quoy & Gaimard, 1833 |
Size | 80.4 mm, w/o |
Locality | Australia |
Note | One of the GREATEST treasures of the JES private collection, this truly incredible UNIQUE specimen, from a far western locality, represents an almost unimaginable phenomenon - a full TRUE GOLDEN fimbriata. Even the most advanced Cassidae specialist will scarce believe the existence of such a shell. Uniform RICH CUSTARD, with ultra-rich GOLDEN YELLOW apertural interior. In addition to its miraculous colour, (and perhaps as a consequence of it), the ventral ‘shield’ exhibits an atypically thick and resplendent gloss, as if formed from coloured glass. For a Cassidae specialist, or collector of truly unique seashells, the specimen is beyond price, and, as there exists no precedent for the sale of such a specimen, rather than transact the shell via private treaty, I offer it here via auction, to allow all collectors the chance to acquire one of the MOST IMPORTANT Cassidae specimens in the world, and unquestionably the RAREST and most BEAUTIFUL fimbriata known. Size: 80.4 mm (length). Grading: Gem. Data: Off Esperance, South Coast Region, Western Australia, Australia; upon sand substrate; 40 m; trawled; 1998. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
