Item | # 0002382124 | Family | Pectinidae | Name | Equichlamys bifrons - BIG; BROWN RAYS ON IVORY , (Lamarck, J.P.B.A., 1819) |
Size | 81.6 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | A superb, ultra-large specimen of a rare and beautiful colour form: rays of caramel across an ivory ground. Rare quality, especially at such large size. Painstakingly cleaned, with no encrustation, nor erosion. Perfect ultra-delicate outer valve edges, (usually damaged during the trawling process). The specimen well-illustrates the differing valve sizes of the species, with the protruding edge of the reverse valve revealing the brilliant glossy rich caramel and chocolate of the valve interiors. The BEST specimen of this uncommon colour form I have ever handled. For the Pectinidae specialist interested in colour variations. Size: 81.6 mm (longest dimension). Grading: Gem. Data: Edithburgh, Yorke Peninsula, South Australia, Australia; upon sand substrate; 8 m; dived; 2007. |
