Note | An exceptionally rare, magnificent, and highly interesting specimen of this most coveted of southern Australian Volutidae species, in which the anterior spiral band of colour is TWICE as broad as in typical examples. Ultra-large size. Hypermature, with perfect outer apertural lip and siphonal canal. One tiny typical disruption, hidden completely upon the ventrum. One of my favourite guntheri from my private collection, and the ONLY specimen I have to offer of this ultra-rare form. Size: 53.9 mm (length). Grading: F+++. Data: Thorny Passage, Port Lincoln, Eyre Peninsula, South Australia, Australia; upon coarse white sand substrate; 16 m; dived; 1994. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
