Size | 43 mm, w/o |

Note | The absolute BEST for this extremely rare, little-known, deep-water form of this endemic eastern Australian species, in the rarest of colours. This magnificent form, undoubtedly lacking in almost all the world's Muricidae collections, bears more than a passing resemblance to corrugatus from the Red Sea. Its differences to the typical intertidal form are so distinct, it could easily warrant a form name for ready separation. Ultra-large size. Rare level of preservation. Always with open, fluted varical spines, to highly aesthetic effect. Exceedingly beautiful delicate orangish pink throughout. One of my favourite shells from my private collection, now to be passed to an advanced Muricidae specialist. Size: 43 mm (length). Grading: Gem; w/o. Data: Off Laurieton, Camden Haven, New South Wales, Australia; upon mud/sand/detritus substrate; 60-70 m; lobster trap; 2012. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
