| Note | EXCEPTIONAL JES PRIVATE COLLECTION SPECIMEN: This sale includes five exceptional specimens from my private collection, representing a rare opportunity to create your own price for extremely high-value shells. ZOILA FRIENDI: The biggest and BEST 'gondola' from my private collection. Enormous size in a friendi is always a coveted factor, as is ultra-dark colour, but to have both of these attributes in an example which also exhibits the coveted 'gondola' form in its highest expression is rare indeed. Incredibly elongate, tapered, lenticular shape when viewed in dorsal perspective. Absolute perfection, save one tiny, fully glossed and absolutely negligible sand grain, (mentioned only for the purposes of complete disclosure, and in no way detracting from the fact that this specimen is, for all intents and purposes, 'Gem'). Diver collected in the 'old days', and simply no longer available, the specimen has been meticulously curated within my private collection, and gives the appearance of having been collected this year. A treasured shell from my private Zoila collection, now to be passed to another connoisseur. Size: 98.3 mm (length). Grading: F++++/Gem. Data: Reef No.1, Straggler Reefs, off Fremantle, Western Australia, Australia; upon limestone reef substrate, upon sponge; 20 m; dived; 1985. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
