Item | # 0002233515 | Family | Cypraeidae | Name | Cypraea tigris amboolee - SELDOM OFFERED , Steadman & Cotton, 1943 |
Size | 89.4 mm |
Locality | Fiji |
Note | This beautiful specimen of the REAL amboolee, collected half a century ago from the type locality of Fiji, exhibits all the distinguishing features elucidated by Steadman & Cotton in their original description of this form: 'small and large purplish black spots'; 'white inner dorsal wall'; 'colourless dorsal groove'. The name 'amboolee' refers to the native Fijian word for cowrie. The specimen was collected in the 1960s, and the original 1960s label accompanies the specimen. Well curated prior to passing into my custodianship, it has retained superb full colour, which is now fully stable. A few typical minor issues, but overall excellent quality. The original 1960s label states 'Fiji Islands'. Size: 89.4 mm (length). Grading: F++. Data: Fiji; upon reef substrate; 1960s. Provenance: Unidentified collection; 1960s. |
