Item | # 0002189094 | Family | Volutidae | Name | Amoria turneri - RARE DEEPWATER SPECIMEN. , Griffith, E. & Pidgeon, E., 1834 |
Size | 65.2 mm |
Locality | Timor Sea, off Darwin. |
Note | I offered this specimen last auction as the new species of Amoria mihali, but was informed by the author that it was not, so I quickly had it blocked for those that may have seen it. On this auction I offer it again, this time as a DEEPWATER FORM of Amoria turneri. Few of these DEEPWATER specimens have ever been collected and note that none have ever been taken alive. So in this context, this specimen with its natural lustre and only the columellar tail and anterior lip chipped, is very representative of the specimen taken. With the Amoria mihali they are now the deepest Amoria species known at 350M, trawled in the Timor Sea, off Darwin, Northern Territory. A great opportunity for the enthusiastic volute collectors. A conchological DEEPWATER form of Amoria turneri and very presentable comparable to all the others found. |
