Item | # 0002180387 | Family | Muricidae | Name | Chicoreus damicornis - GIANT; DEEP-WATER FORM , Hedley, 1903 |
Size | 58.1 mm, w/o |
Locality | Australia |
Note | A superb giant specimen of the broad, wide-fronded, deep-water, New South Wales form. The varices in this form are always less frondose than those in typical specimens. This form also produces the largest examples of the species. Exemplary quality for this always rough, deep-water trawled form. One coralline encrustation remaining upon siphonal canal, (which could be removed if desired). Now very difficult to obtain, coming only from old collections. Size: 58.1 mm (length). Grading: F+++; w/o. Data: Off Eden, New South Wales, Australia; upon sand/mud substrate; 80-100 m; trawled; 1982. |
