Item | # 0002179343 | Family | Volutidae | Name | Cymbiolena magnifica - RARE 'ALBINO' , (Gebauer, 1802) |
Size | 230 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | The largest specimen I have ever seen of the exceedingly rare 'albino' form. Highly nebulous incarnation of typical pattern, transmuted into indescribably beautiful shades of delicate lavender, lemon and ivory. Rich orange-yellow apertural interior. Markedly solid, with great weight to size ratio. One axial growth disruption to an early whorl, (see above left image). Now only obtainable from choice old collections, and almost never released upon account of their rarity. For the Volutidae specialist. Size: c.230 mm (length). Grading: F+++. Data: Off Southport, Queensland, Australia; upon sand/mud substrate; 80-100 m; trawled; 1982. |
