Size | 87.5 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | This ultra-large and magnificent form was much discussed by Peter Clarkson, (author of ‘Australia’s Spectacular Cowries’), who considered it an intermediate between the elongate form of the nominate subspecies, and the broad, inflated form of thersites. These highly uncommon shells exhibit extreme ventral callosity. Ultra-solid, with great weight to size ratio. Ultra-rich colour, with particularly spectacular columellar margin, (see above right image). Nothing but one small flow line and one typical, fully glossed sand grain to dorsum, otherwise perfection. A monumental appearance and feel 'in the hand'. The ONLY specimen I have remaining to offer of this little known form. Definitely for the advanced Zoila specialist. Size: 87.5 mm (length). Grading: F+++. Data: Off East of Esperance, Western Australia, Australia; upon reef substrate, upon sponge; 16 m; dived; 1992. |
