Item | # 0002179338 | Family | Volutidae | Name | Amoria guttata - RARE QUALITY , McMichael, 1964 |
Size | 48.3 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | True Amoria guttata, (exhiting characteristic spots and dashes, as opposed to axial lines), is a rarer species than the closely related A. lineola, and the majority of specimens offered as the former, are, in fact, the latter. The current specimen of true guttata is of exceptional quality, especially with regards preservation of the ultra-delicate siphonal canal, almost always lost to trawl damage. Well-formed pattern. Protoconch intact. The BEST of the best. A product of the legendary 1980s Queensland trawls, and now obtainable only from choice old collections. Size: 48.3 mm (length). Grading: Gem. Data: Off Townsville, Queensland, Australia; upon sand substrate; 80-100 m; trawled; 1986. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
