| Note | Cypraea valentia - the greatest of all 'classic' cowries - has always been a personal favourite, and I have spent much time, effort, (and money), in obtaining dozens of the finest examples over the past two decades, always upgrading, and noting variation in the characteristics of the species. For the fruits of my years of research, see my major article concerning the morphology and history of this species in Beautiful Cowries Magazine No.7; December 2015; pp.15-29. Having handled numerous exceptional specimens over time, I can unequivocally state that the current example is one of the very BEST I have ever seen. Ultra-dark colour, (with marginal colours beyond description), meticulously curated, and as rich as the day it was collected. Exceedingly well-formed dorsal pattern. Exquisite, balanced proportions. Absolute perfection. Far more beautiful 'in the hand' than the above images can convey. Although numerous valentia were collected during the heyday of tangle net operations in the central Philippines, very few were found like this. I have gradually sold off the numerous specimens I acquired, retaining just a few favourites, including the current example. Fresh specimens have now become very scare once again.
