Size | 70.5 mm, w/o |
Locality | Australia |
Note | One of the BEST specimens I have ever seen, and without question the BEST specimen of this rare pattern form. The outer apertural lip of this rock reef-dwelling species is incredibly delicate, and is virtually always damaged, even in live-collected examples. In the current example however, it is virtual perfection. In addition, the tiny protoconch is intact. Most collectors will not appreciate how supremely difficult it is to obtain such a large specimen in such exceptional condition, let alone exhibiting this rare pattern. For the admirer of truly exquisite seashells. Size: 70.5 mm (length). Grading: Gem. Data: McHaffie Reef, Phillip Island, Victoria, Australia; upon reef substrate; under slab at extreme low tide; 1997. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
