Size | 61.2 mm, w/o |
Locality | New Zealand |
Note | The BEST and largest specimen I have ever handled of this rare, sought after, deep-water, endemic New Zealand species - one of the most beautiful of all trochids. Fine sculpture readily discernible. Dark apex intact, (usually lost to trawl damage). Beautiful colours. Perfection apart from light smoothing to outer apertural lip. Retention of enormous original operculum. Extremely difficult to obtain like this, coming only from choice old collections. A treasured shell from my private collection, now to be passed only to another connoisseur of the world's very best seashells. Size: 61.2 mm (longest dimension). Grading: F++++; w/o. Data: Off Waikanae Beach, Kapiti Coast, North Island, New Zealand; upon mud/sand substrate; 100-200 m; trawled; 1981. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
