Item | # 0002163088 | Family | LANDSNAILS | Name | Chilonopsis nonpareil - RAREST AFRICAN SNAIL!!!! , (Perry, 1811) |
Size | 41 mm |
Locality | Saint Helena Island |
Note | MRM 024 - Chilonopsis nonpareil (Perry, 1811), 41 mm, F++, maybe the rarest species of land snails from Africa! and perhaps from the world too!!!this is a specimen of the now extinct species, Chilonopsis nonpareil ( Perry, 1811) there are few tiny growth marks. I am not sure if this was live taken since it has amazing great quality and you can see all details and formations of marvelous shell there, never ever heard of one shell of this rare and unique species found in live-taken form since time of great exploration by Charles Darwin from his very early journeys through to this island! It is difficult to almost impossible to get shells of this species even for a good fragment and this is the nicest and first (and maybe the last!) specimen from my private collection. Original value I got from my American friend was already at 450.00 Euro, but we will start with great fun at 1.00 Euro (Data : from very old American collection, collected from Saint Helena Island in South Atlantic Ocean, UK oversea territory in between Africa & South America!) |
