Size | 260 mm |
Locality | USA |
Note | An outstanding 10 inch 'trophy' specimen. Extremely rare at this size, and much coveted by West Coast US shell collectors and sports divers both. Ultra-rich red, heavily deposited shell material to exterior, painstakingly cleaned of encrustation, and with no erosion, save the typical to early section of growth. Incredible opalescent interior. Outer apertural lip in natural state, with no artificial smoothing. Extremely solid with great weight to size ratio. For any collector who seeks a 10 inch rufescens of the highest possible quality. (Note: To provide adequate protection in a very large parcel, I will round down postage for this specimen to 40 EUR to anywhere in the world.) Size: c.260 mm (length). Grading: F+++. Data: Off northern coast of California, USA; upon reef substrate, amongst sponges, seaweeds and corals; 3-5 m; dived; 1970s. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
