Note | NOTE: Special sales dispersing exceptional specimens from my private collection, along with highlights from my high quality stock, will continue indefinitely, without this initial notice. TUTUFA BARDEYI: One of the world's four largest gastropods, (and the largest Bursidae species), at a size approaching the species limit, in exceptional condition. Exemplary preservation of the apex, lost upon most specimens of this monumental size and age. Equally exemplary preservation of outer apertural lip and siphonal canal, usually badly damaged. Nothing but a few predatory marks, always associated with giant examples. Characteristic high exterior gloss developed by this species in advanced age. A 'museum piece' of conchology. Now obtainable only from choice old collections. A rare shell, and a rare opportunity for the Bursidae specialist, or collector of truly GIANT sized shells. Size: c.390 mm (length). Grading: F+++. Data: Off Mogadishu, Somalia; upon sand/mud/detritus substrate; 100 m; trawled; 1992. (Note: To provide adequate protection in a VERY large parcel, I will round down postage for this specimen to 60 EUR to anywhere in the world. Alternatively, I can hand-deliver the shell at the upcoming Australian International Shell Show in April.) |
