Note | NOTE: Special sales dispersing exceptional specimens from my private collection, along with highlights from my high quality stock, will continue indefinitely, without this initial notice. VOLUTOCONUS MULTIFORMIS: A large and superb specimen of the rare 'leucostoma' form of this endemic Queensland species. In conjunction with the pure white aperture, the exterior colour of this form is always transmuted from the typical, to a near pure white ground, decorated with markings of pale brown. One typical growth disruption to an early whorl, but otherwise exemplary. Calcarella intact. For the Volutidae specialist whose collection yet lacks a first-rate specimen of this rare form. Size: 66 mm (length). Grading: F+++. Data: East of North Reef, Capricorn and Bunker Group, Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, Australia; upon sand/rubble substrate; 150 m; trawled; 1980. |
