ZOILA FRIENDI VERCOI: This ultra-large and truly outstanding specimen was collected by the late Peter Clarkson, (author of ‘Australia’s Spectacular Cowries’), and the original hand-written Clarkson label accompanies the specimen. Another of Clarkson's favourite vercoi, the specimen exhibits a magnificent pattern of large, coalescent, dark tan and chestnut maculae, across a ground of pale blue, lavender, and rich golden tan. A BEST of the best deep-water vercoi with important provenance from two of the world's outstanding private collections. Definitely for the Zoila connoisseur. Size: 88.9 mm (length). Grading: Gem. Data: Off North-West coast of Forrest Island, Alexander Bay, Esperance, Western Australia, Australia; upon limestone reef substrate, upon grey-green sponge, (Spirastrella sp.), upon edge of 1 × 11 m limestone ridge, covered with brown and red algae; (c.40-50 m); dived; 12 April 1999.
