Note | NOTE: Special sales dispersing exceptional specimens from my private collection, along with highlights from my high quality stock, will continue indefinitely, without this initial notice. CHARONIA LAMPAS RUBICUNDA: An extremely large, deep-water specimen of this particular form, which differs from the typical in having a broader, finer shell, and more pronounced exterior surface sculpture. This is what is locally termed the 'orange' form, and is one the largest examples I have ever seen of this form. Rich ochre-orange, with accents of tan, and pink early whorls. Delicate peach-apricot to columellar 'shield'. The very BEST quality for such advanced age and size, with perfect outer apertural lip, siphonal canal, and columellar 'shield'. Size: 135.1 mm (length). Grading: F++++. Data: Due South of Eucla, Great Australian Bight, Western Australia, Australia; upon sand/sponge substrate; trawled; 145-300 m; 1995. |
