Note | NOTE: Special sales dispersing exceptional specimens from my private collection, along with highlights from my high quality stock, will continue indefinitely, without this initial notice. CONUS RUFIMACULOSUS: The most colourful specimen I have ever seen of this uncommon, deep-water, north-eastern Australia species. Rare quality, with none of the oft-seen substantial growth damage. Superb pattern. Characteristic deeply channelled spire. Truly beautiful colours: orange-ochre markings, across a pinkish white ground, with rich pink apertural colour so densely deposited as to create a visible pink register upon body whorl towards outer apertural lip. Collected during the legendary 1980s Queensland trawls, and now obtainable only from old collections. Glassy, mammillate protoconch intact. The BEST of the best for the Conidae specialist. Size: 36 mm (length). Grading: F+++. Data: Off Southport, Queensland, Australia; upon sand substrate; 100-140 m; trawled; 1983. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
