CHICOREUS CORNUCERVI: A PHENOMENAL SHELL. Undoubtedly one of the largest and BEST cornucervi known, this incredible giant of the 'white' form was collected from a remote locality in the very 'old days' of collecting. Rarely seen at this size in ANY condition, the current specimen is in an exceptional state of preservation for such advanced age and size. Given that its 141.2 mm measurement is taken from its longest dimension, in conjunction with the extreme recurvature of its spines, one may begin to appreciate the monumental size of the specimen, as this measurement is not created by the length of outwardly extending spines. Hypermature, with markedly thickened shell walls, and great weight to size ratio. Ultra-recurved spines of most graceful formation. Fully mature outer apertural lip, with well-developed ceras intact. Full maturity of principal varical fronds, with channel of each fully closed, (a sign of complete maturity in the genus Chicoreus). Beautiful rich pink-peach to apertural interior. Painstakingly cleaned, with no encrustation. Specimens of this enormous size are simply no longer available, now coming only from choice old collections. A true 'museum piece' of conchology, and definitely for the Muricidae specialist, or collector of exceptional giant sized shells. Size: 141.2 mm (longest dimension). Grading: F++++; w/o.
