Note | SPECIAL SALE - PART 8: Part eight of my current special sales comprised entirely of exceptional specimens from my private collection, representing highlights of my collecting and dealing career. Another opportunity to acquire outstanding and unique seashells from one of the world’s pre-eminent collections. NOTOCYPRAEA PULICARIA: A superb, ultra-large specimen, exhibiting atypically rich colour, and the characteristic 'cylindrically oblong' shape, mentioned by Reeve in his original description. Reeve also mentions that the species 'is not banded', yet, although not possessing the conspicuous three broad spiral bands of piperita, (from which he correctly separated the species), Reeve no doubt had before him unbanded examples, as three narrow spiral bands are present upon certain examples, absent upon others, as is now well documented with the study of innumerable examples over time. Size: 20.2 mm (length). Grading: Gem. Data: Off Augusta, Western Australia, Australia; upon rock reef substrate, under slab; 2-4 m; dived; 1992. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
