CALLIOSTOMA BELLATRIX: This rare, relatively recently discovered, extreme deep-water, endemic northern Australian species ranks amongst the most beautiful of Australia's Trochidae. Superb overall quality, with only minor trawl fraying to completely natural outer apertural lip. Antique ivory ground, with accents of pale fawn, and background opalescence. Magnificent sutural rows of well-developed beads. Size: 39 mm (longest dimension). Grading: F++++; w/o. Data: Timor Sea, off Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia; upon sand/mud/detritus substrate; 300-500 m. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
