Note | SPECIAL SALE - PART 8: Part eight of my current special sales comprised entirely of exceptional specimens from my private collection, representing highlights of my collecting and dealing career. Another opportunity to acquire outstanding and unique seashells from one of the world’s pre-eminent collections. CYPRAEA CRIBRARIA: This unusual and particularly beautiful specimen, exhibiting a distinct blue register above the labral margin, and nebulous pale ochre marginal maculae, came to me with the basic locality of 'Western Australia'. In certain respects it resembles c. australiensis (Lorenz, 2002), although I list it here under the nominate subspecies, and leave it to the advanced Cribrarula specialist to determine its ultimate taxonomic placement. Pronounced marginal and ventral callosity. Size: 24 mm (length). Grading: F++++. Data: 'Western Australia'(?), Australia; (upon coral reef substrate; 1980s). Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
