Note | EXTRA SPECIAL SALE - PART 6: Part six of my extra special sales comprised entirely of exceptional specimens from my private collection, representing highlights of my collecting and dealing career. Another opportunity to acquire outstanding and unique seashells from one of the world’s pre-eminent collections. CHICOREUS CORNUCERVI: A superb giant specimen. Enormous, highly animated, tarantula-like form, (see above right image). Exceedingly elongate central pair of spines upon principal varix. Ultra-dark colour, contrasting with delicate peach-pink apertural interior. A few fronds and siphonal canal with typical, inevitable slight loss from reef-dwelling habitat, but superb overall condition, combined with magnificent proportions. Size: 148.4 mm (longest dimension). Grading: F+++; w/o. Data: Off Dampier, Western Australia, Australia; upon sand/rubble/mud/reef substrate, in reef crevice, amongst seagrass and algae; 4-5 m; dived; 1989. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
