Note | EXTRA SPECIAL SALE - PART 6: Part six of my extra special sales comprised entirely of exceptional specimens from my private collection, representing highlights of my collecting and dealing career. Another opportunity to acquire outstanding and unique seashells from one of the world’s pre-eminent collections. CASSIS FIMBRIATA: This truly incredible giant of this endemic southern Australian species represents an increase of over 6 mm upon the current official WRS, (information verified at wrs-shells.com upon 20 November 2018). Rich purplish burgundy dorsum. Creamy ivory ventrum and shield, with accents of cinnamon. Sporadic minor losses, but exemplary overall condition for such an incredible old age giant - vastly superior quality to the current WRS specimen. Mammillate protoconch intact. Definitely for the Cassidae specialist or collector of WRS shells. Size: 141.76 mm (length). Grading: F++. Data: Off Kingston SE, South Australia, Australia; upon sand substrate; 40-80 m; craypot; 1984. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
