NoteEXTRA SPECIAL SALE - PART 6: Part six of my extra special sales comprised entirely of exceptional specimens from my private collection, representing highlights of my collecting and dealing career. Another opportunity to acquire outstanding and unique seashells from one of the world’s pre-eminent collections. AMORIA UNDULATA: This very rare example is what could be termed a 'leucostoma' form. I have handled hundreds of specimens of the southern form of undulata, including around fifty examples of the much substrate-influenced Blackwater River form, and this is the ONLY specimen I have ever seen exhibiting the phenomenon of a completely 'white' aperture. The rich creamy ivory apertural interior constrasts markedly with the substrate influenced 'melanism' of the exterior. In order to fully illustrate the nature of the current example, a typical specimen is here figured alongside, (shell upon right in above left image), which exhibits the usual orange aperture. Both specimens comprise the lot, in order that the winning bidder may display this rare variant alongside its typical counterpart. Hypermature, with markedly thickened, ‘rolled’ outer apertural lip. Minimal typical sand abrasion and inclusions, always present in specimens from this uncommon extreme southern locality. For the Volutidae specialist. Size: 66.2 mm (length). Grading: F+++. Data: Blackwater River, Tasmania, Australia; upon sand/silt substrate at extreme seasonal low tide; 1983. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London.
