Note | EXTRA SPECIAL SALE - PART 4: Part four of my extra special sales comprised entirely of exceptional specimens from my private collection, representing highlights of my collecting and dealing career. Another opportunity to acquire outstanding and unique seashells from one of the world’s pre-eminent collections. AMORIA MOLLERI: The BEST specimen I have ever handled of this rare, deep-water dwarf form of this endemic Queensland species. The original 1982 label which accompanies the specimen was written at a time prior to this form being well documented, and quaintly describes it as the 'peachy form'. Perfect outer apertural lip. Pin-point protoconch intact. Hypermature, with greatly thickened and glossed outer apertural lip. Very solid and heavy for size. Collected during the legendary 1980s Queensland trawls, and now obtainable only from old collections. For the Volutidae specialist whose collection yet lacks this rare form. Size: 60 mm (length). Grading: F++++. Data: Off Townsville, Queensland, Australia; upon mud/sand/rubble substrate; 200-320 m; trawled; 1982. Provenance: 1. Unidentified 1980s Queensland collection; 2. JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
