Note | EXTRA SPECIAL SALE - PART 4: Part four of my extra special sales comprised entirely of exceptional specimens from my private collection, representing highlights of my collecting and dealing career. Another opportunity to acquire outstanding and unique seashells from one of the world’s pre-eminent collections. CASSIS FIMBRIATA: A large and exceptional specimen of this endemic southern Australian species, exhibiting the richest colour, and one of the BEST patterns I have ever seen in the species. Examples such as this appear to be a specific form, far rarer than typical specimens. One restricted area of typical loss to the siphonal canal, in no way detracting from the impressive nature of the specimen. Mammillate protoconch intact. Size: 88 mm (length). Grading: F+++;w/o. Data: Off Kingston SE, South Australia, Australia; upon sand substrate; 40-80 m; craypot; 1983. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
