Note | EXTRA SPECIAL SALE - PART 4: Part four of my extra special sales comprised entirely of exceptional specimens from my private collection, representing highlights of my collecting and dealing career. Another opportunity to acquire outstanding and unique seashells from one of the world’s pre-eminent collections. LIVONIA MAMMILLA: A magnificent specimen of the deep-water Queensland form of this endmic south-eastern Australian species. Very difficult to obtain now, especially at this size and quality, and with such an outstanding, dense pattern. Typical slight roughening to completely natural outer apertural lip, much preferable to the connoisseur to the heavy smoothing carried out upon virtually every specimen collected, and it is for this reason, in conjunction with its size and magnificent pattern, that I retained this specimen as the BEST I have seen. A product of the legendary 1980s Queensland trawls, now obtainable only from old collections. (Note: To provide adequate protection in a very large parcel, I will round down postage for this enormous specimen to 40 EUR to anywhere in the world.) Size: c.265 mm (length). Grading: F+++. Data: Off Mooloolaba, Queensland, Australia; upon sand substrate; 80-120 m; trawled; 1981. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
