Item | # 0002068167 |
Family | Costellariidae |
Name | Vexillum pulchellum - beautiful color , (Reeve,1844) |
Size | 15.9 mm |
Locality | S. East Florida |
Note | This is another of the species that were collected by the scuba diving shell collectors that did most of their diving on the offshore reefs at night. This colorful, small Vexillum was often the "prize" for anyone's dive. This example is actually a bit larger than most that were found and it is also a shell whose color and pattern are "as good as it gets". There is a chip on the outer edge of the lip which is quite a usual occurrence in this species because it is a delectable prey for crabs.
