Note | EXTRA SPECIAL SALE - PART 2: Part two of my extra special sale comprised entirely of exceptional specimens from my private collection, representing highlights of my collecting and dealing career. Another opportunity to acquire outstanding and unique seashells from one of the world’s pre-eminent collections. AMORIA ZEBRA: The most exquisite zebra I have ever seen, and the ONLY specimen I have ever encountered exhibiting this particular incarnation of an exceedingly rare phenomenon, in which the axial bands of colour, (in this case already of a rare and beautiful nature), are traversed by a single, broad spiral band of dark chestnut, formed with absolute perfection. One other specimen exhibiting this ultra-rare trait is illustrated upon plate 67 of ‘The Living Volutes’, (Weaver & du Pont, 1970), but the phenomenon is nowhere near as pronounced in that example, nor as beautiful as in the current specimen. In addition, the specimen is GEM, exhibiting a perfect outer apertural lip and siphonal canal, rare for this species. An opportunity for the advanced Volutidae specialist to acquire a unique and truly exceptional shell. Size: 42.4 mm (length). Grading: Gem. Data: Clairview, Queensland, Australia; upon sand substrate at extreme seasonal low tide; 1984. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
