Note | EXTRA SPECIAL SALE - PART 2: Part two of my extra special sale comprised entirely of exceptional specimens from my private collection, representing highlights of my collecting and dealing career. Another opportunity to acquire outstanding and unique seashells from one of the world’s pre-eminent collections. SEMICASSIS ADCOCKI: This diminutive jewel was retained in my private collection upon account of five points of merit: 1. its tiny, fully mature size; 2. its atypically elongate form; 3. its exhibiting the most perfectly formed ‘squares’ of chestnut spiral banding I have ever seen; 4. a particularly beautiful spiral band of lavender below the suture; 5. its markedly gemmulate whorl periphery and spire. Fully mature, thickened, ‘rolled’ and glossed outer apertural lip. Perfect siphonal canal. One insignificant growth disruption completely hidden upon ventrum. Definitely for the Cassidae specialist or admirer of truly exquisite seashells. Size: 29.8 mm (length). Grading: F+++; w/o. Data: Backstairs Passage, off Kangaroo Island, between Fleurieu Peninsula and Dudley Peninsula, South Australia, Australia; upon coarse sand/gravel substrate, at night; 35 m; dived; 1994. Provenance: 1. Peter Clarkson private collection, Port Lincoln; 2. JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
