EPITONIUM SCALARE: An outstanding giant specimen of exceptional overall quality of the pure and beautiful Philippine form, (not from Vietnam). It is rare for Philippine examples to attain this size. Nothing but the typical invariable loss at the apex of all giant examples, (that is, those not ‘fixed’ but artificial means). Exceptionally clean, with no substrate discoloration. Balanced asymmetry of exquisite proportions. Equidistant axial ribs. In addition to its great size and quality, the specimen exhibits a markedly broad form, with a greatly expanded body whorl, lending it a particularly graceful overall form. A scalare for the connoissuer. Size: 61.6 mm (longest dimension). Grading: F+++; w/o. Data: Off Corregidor, Luzon, Philippines; upon mud/sand substrate; 80-100 m; trawled; 2008.
