Item | # 0002006231 | Family | Muricidae | Name | Chicoreus territus - BROAD-WINGED FORM , (Reeve, L.A., 1845) |
Size | 54.1 mm, w/o |
Locality | Australia |
Note | A superb specimen, from the very ?old days? of collecting, of the broad-winged, deep-water form of this endemic Queensland species. The deep-water form differs from the intertidal in having a slightly finer shell and more expansive varical structure. Furthermore, certain individuals, such as the current example, exhibit extremely broad and elegant varices, with a supreme balance to their formation, lending them a Siratus-like appearance. This broad-winged form is quite uncommon. Nothing but the most insignificant, typical natural disruptions. All deep-water territus are now obtainable only from old collections. Definitely for the Muricidae specialist. Size: 54.1 mm (length). Grading: F++; w/o. Data: Keppel Bay, Queensland, Australia; upon sand substrate; 27 m; trawled; 1959. |
