Size | 98 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | This is the rare ?gatliffi? pattern, from the ?old days? of collecting. The name ?gatliffi? is now regarded as taxonomically invalid, although it remains a useful tool in identifying the sparse pattern of the form. Always with a few minor, natural growth interruptions and trawl damage, the current specimen is of high overall quality, with a minimum of such imperfections and typical smoothing to the outer apertural lip, carried out upon all specimens in the 1970s at the source. A product of the legendary 1970s Taiwanese trawling activity off the far Northern Australian coast, such specimens are virtually unobtainable now, coming only from old collections. Size: 98 mm (length). Grading: F+++. Data: Off Wadeye, (Port Keats), Northern Territory, Australia; upon sand/mud/rubble substrate; 200-300 m; trawled; 1975. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
