Item | # 0001731575 |
Family | Turbinellidae |
Name | Vasum lactisfloris - WORLD RECORD SIZE , Ferrario, 1983 |
Size | 103 mm |
Locality | Ras Hafun, North-Eastern Somalia |
Note | Registered WRS 87mm. Vasum lactisfloris as other deep water somalian species come from trawling activities off the Horn of Africa. That fishery lasted until mid-nineties when, before due to political problems then due to the war (not yet finished), was stopped. The specimens on the market today come from old stocks dating back to those years. The specimen here offered is live taken with almost perfect lip (just a micro-chip anteriorly), deeply colored on columellar callus. Dorsal and spire surface covered by predation micro-holes, as always in gerontic specimens, which don't pierce the shell. Traces of periostracum. This is the biggest and best specimen I found. From my personal collection. FINE |
